Lake Okeechobee is the second largest freshwater lake in the United States with the largest being Lake Michigan that is connected to the Great Lakes water system. Lake Okeechobee is the largest in-land body of water within the lower 48 states that has 730 square miles. The average depth of Lake Okeechobee is about 9ft perfect for the Largemouth bass fishing, black crappie, catfish bluegill and redear sunfish. To support the quality of these fishing species there is an excellent program for fish hatcheries within the Lake Okeechobee aquatic community.
